Title: CRASH Oculus Go
Post by: Adrian P on December 12, 2019, 12:52:28
VR T is crashing on my Oculus today. Outputs all seem ok on Windows PC HTML but when copied into VR T they open and then crash the whole programme. Not sure if it me or VR T.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Can you provide some details about the panorama that is loaded when the crash occurs? Does it contain 360 video or regular video or audio, is it a monoscopic or stereoscopic panorama?

Could you share the output this is happening with? If so, please send it to info@vrtourviewer.com using https://wetransfer.com. Then I can try to reproduce the issue here.

Is this happening with a Beta version of VR Tourviewer? Can you tell me the version number?

Ok just sent it over. Its a very basic test so nothing complex. No video just image taken from Theta 360 camera. Not sure if you would refer to that as mono or stereo

Thanks, I'll take a look at the files.

Crash confirmed, it's an out of memory error.

Apparently the 95Mb MP3 file (background sound, 1 hour) is too much for the app to handle. This is because the MP3 file has to be loaded into memory completely before playing (it's not streaming audio). In memory the MP3 file is uncompressed and the size is a lot bigger than 95Mb. If you can replace this file with an MP3 file of a few Mb (few minutes) the tour shouldn't crash anymore.

This beta version (1.1.269) supports custom hotspot images, but the images that you are using (arrows) have a resolution of approximately 6300x3400 pixels. When loading three of these the memory of the Oculus fills up really quick and they take a long time to load. I've reduced them to a texture of 512 pixels high or wide (large enough for the displayed size) and they load quickly now.  I'll send you the resized arrows so you can replace them.

Many thanks, will be looking to purchase soon as we seem to be getting to the point of meeting requirement.

Ok at least we have stopped the crash now, many thanks. I now have the issue of custom hotspots not visible in VR T. I thought I had the BETA version.  :'(

My bad, the version that supports custom images is 1.1.270 which isn't beta.
I can update the Beta release channel with a new version tomorrow, with support for custom hotspot images.

Great news, how do I update to that version as I cannot see an update in the APP?

You should see it in the Oculus Library on your Go, in a section on the left called 'Updates'

Yep that's what I thought but no update showing?

If your Oculus Go has a working internet connection, but the update still doesn't show then you could try restarting the Go by long-pressing the power button and choose 'Restart. This has helped in some cases.

Could you try uninstalling VR Tourviewer and then install it again?
The files in the VRTourviewer folder will not be affected.

Ok that has worked up to a point. Custom hotspots to a node appear fine but hotspots to an image has resulted in losing the text info associated with the image.

So a bit more clarity

Custom image works well on NODE hotspot
Custom image on IMAGE hotspot shows the image but loses the info attached to the hotspot
SVG custom image does not show on any hotspot type

Thanks for the report! Issue confirmed with custom image on image hotspot.

For now for the image hotspots to show the description info correctly, you can remove the custom image by rightclicking on the Custom Image filename in the Hotspot Properties in Pano2VR and choose 'Clear', then export the output again.

This issue will be fixed in the next beta update later today.

SVG images are not supported unfortunately. This will be handled in the next version by using the default built-in hotspot icon in case an SVG image is set as custom image.
